After returning to my home, Homer alaska, from Camp Casey, I received this lovely email from Peter and Geniveve...a couple that decided to get married at Camp Casey. They said they couldn't think of any place they would rather say their vows to each other. Anyway, shortly after we broke camp at Camp Casey I recieved this email from Peter... Thanks for your blog from Camp Casey, we will never forget that place.__As we walked the mile to our car away from CC on our wedding night, the tent glowed in the distance. It looked like a spaceship on the Texas prairie. __Looking back, we realized that the place we were wed will physically disappear today. The gathering on that Texas roadside, that collection of people from all over the United States and around the world will never exist again in the same way. After meeting, hugging and photographing this brave young couple, I went back to my computer to upload the photo in the Camp Casey Universe and sobbed. I just couldn't stop. I guess after 10 days of the love, sadness and intensity of Camp Casey I just couldn't hold back the floodgates of emotion. Tomas was paralyzed from the chest down the same day Casey Sheehan was killed. He was in an unarmored vehicle with no top on it. He said that it must have been like shooting fish in a fishbowl.

I can't believe I didn't discover this Mini Paradise a long time ago. Apparently lots of folks from Camp have cooled their lids here from time to time during this relentless heat wave. It's about 1 mile from the Peace House and, I'm guessing about 10 miles to Camp Casey 1 and 2.

A group of about 20 young Democrats from the University in Austin came down Monday to experience the phenomanon that is Camp Casey. These 2 students from the group told me about their vigilance and determination to register as many voters as possible prior to most recent presidential election. Thank god for wireless out here in the middle of nowhere but it is VERY slow and frustrating in camp. Right now i am in a hotel room about 10 miles from Camp Casey showering and sitting in the air conditioning to re-group before my 2 day odyssey (with plane changes etc )back to Alaska....and of course blogging to all of you with speedy wireless.

I can't express to you how much your comments and support for all of us out here in the trenches means to us. We feel the love flowing all over Camp Casey. I'm so happy to have learned about this blogging tool from a friend here at camp about 9 days ago. What an amazing thing. Screw the main stream media...who needs them. The oftentimes arrogance of the ms media is sickening here at the camp...their profiling of types to interview is transparent and repugnant despite our urging them to interview and represent the truly diverse and fascinating cross-section of folks here at Camp Casey. Meanwhile I huddle in my humble corner of the Camp Casey Universe and blog away to all of you about the truth and magic happening here...you who will really make the difference.

Kathleen Rumpf is a peace activistist from Syracuse. She did a year in prison for protesting the School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia. She and Martin go back 23 years ago when he learned about Kathleens work with the homeless. He's passionate about issues regarding poverty and homelessness and he's active in the peace movement.

Everything here is volunteer..from patrolling the road out front, to driving shuttles back and forth between the 2 camps and the Peace House, to fixing all the volumes of food we supply to weekend supporters and all of us, to arranging all the music, to getting food in and kept cold etc etc etc.....it's mind boggling. The banner in the back was made by 2 teenage sisters from my town in Alaska. They were very excited to send it along with me to Camp Casey. Carly, the older of the 2 is a Dylan fan and remembered this line from "Blowin in the Wind". She really wanted to send this message to Mr Bush. Tomas and Bree Young came to stand vigil with us here at Camp Casey. They are on their honeymoon. They are my son's age.
He was shot the same day as Casey Sheehan in Iraq. Tomas is paralyzed from the chest down. Because of his disability from his injuries sustained in Iraq he is unable to cool himself naturally so he has to be iced down from time to time. Tomas and Bree have some questions for Bush.

It's Friday around dinner time here at the camp. Bill Maher will be on a liive feed here tonite. I'm not sure exactly what that means but it sounds exciting . The media is beginning to swarm all over the place building up to this weekend. Many of us have been training how to remain peaceful in the face of opposition. It's rumored that there will be a huge influx of pro-war demonstrators and our highest goal here as a group is to maintain the highest integrity and respect free speech in all it's forms. None of us want a confrontation and we're confident that all will be well. But it is a little unsettling.

I had a verbal confrontation today with a media woman from one of the major networks....as my friend and I watched her around the camp with her camera guys, it appeared that she was only interviewing a certain profile of demonstrators from Camp Casey...tie dyed shirts, flute players etc. My friend suggested she speak to Archie for an interesting cross-section of this incredibly diverse group of people (Archie is featured further down my blog)....Archie is an amazing clean cut older gentleman who has learned a new, more progressive way of thinking since he took several trips on his own to the Middle East, Cuba, and Guratemala to learn the truth first-hand of their culture and politics. What he learned surprised him and he became disenchanted with our governments policys. I never did see the major network media woman film this facsinating man even though we introduced the two of them . His shirt was plain white instead of tie-dyed. Apparently he didn't have the image that this particular major network was looking for.

The tent that is being used for the Medic Tent is one I borrowed from my friends, Tom and Devony from Homer, Alaska. Before I left I heard that there was a need for big shade tents...Thanks Devo and Tom. This tent has seen alot of heat exhaustion victims the last 3-4 days. It almost had me yesterday when I was chopping and hammering. I felt like i was going to pass out. I'm spending today in an air conditioned room to chill out and re-group for the big weekend coming up. Randi Rhodes of Air America and maybe Jackson Browne will be here as peace activists to help us spread the word.

She left the stage and came down and sat a few seats away from me as Cindy went up to talk about Casey's life. It was a beautiful memoir of her lost son. Afterward, Joan leaned over and hugged me warmly...I whispered in her ear how happy I was to be here in Camp Casey.

The 2 days before I came down to Camp Casey I set out paint, brushes and lots of canvas and fabric on the porch of my dear friend, Kari's store on the main street of Homer. Along came 30 friends, a few French tourists, and 4 Viet Nam Vets that live in our town. They created these awesome banners to send along with me to let Cindy, the Military Families Speak Out Group and the Gold Star Families for Peace know that we are behind them.
